Kimye divorce? Supreme cereal? Morphing models? This week’s pop culture round-up

This is WHAT THE F*CK!, your weekly pop culture round-up of nail-biting news, need-to-know trends and never-to-be-ignored topics. Think of it as your own personally curated list, prepped and preened with things that deserve your undivided attention or disapproving glances. Allow us to do the hard work for you (we’re your own little tattle-tale) and let us show you what to check-out and check-off this week.

CHECK-OFF
KIMYE DIVORCE!!!

I know we usually start off with our list of things to check-out but O.M.G. !!!!!!!! Could there be anything more tragic? I mean yes, probably, but still… After months of speculation and rampant rumours, Kim officially filed for divorce yesterday afternoon. All I can say is, I’m disappointed those rumours turned out to be true, however problematic the couple may be.

CHECK-OUT
'It’s A Fashion Thing': Christian Cowan makes moves (and jokes) at NYFW

Bedazzled Motorola flip phones? Check. A guest appearance from Paris Hilton? Check. Taking the piss out of the stuffy fashion industry? Check. COWAN’S AW21 collection scored and won with its dynamic digital presentation, A Fashion Thing, presented at New York Fashion Week. Funny- yes it was. But underneath the haha’s and hehe’s, Cowan made a serious move. From drag queens in feather-tastic hats (ehem AQUARIA) to philanthropic innovators, comedians and everything in-between…Cowan made a case for putting the fun back in fashion – as long as EVERYONE fits the bill. There’s no specific customer in mind at Cowan, everyone goes.

CHECK-OUT
Get trippy with it: Collina Strada’s SS21 acid trip

Models – from Jeremy O. Harris to Ruby Aldridge – chaotically morphed into pre-historic dinosaurs and slime-green frogs-cum-parrots for COLLINA STRADA’S FW21 instalment. Recruiting the renowned illustrator of the Animorphs book series, David Burroughs Mattingly, to evolve and revolve a gang of models into quasi-animal humanoids, Strada provided a much-needed slice of (intoxicating) escapism. There’s plenty more where that came from.

CHECK-OUT
Rihanna feat. Rihanna

The Fenty empire might have decreased in size as of recent, but queen RIRI shows no signs of stooping her crown. Taking to Instagram to showcase her giant new book, RIHANNA, the pop star makes a case for why the book is so extortionate. Sitting at $1495...it certainly breaks the bank. Mortage or riri memorabilia?

CHECK-OUT
The White House? That’s so last year…Ella Emhoff dips her political toes in fashion

From politician’s stepdaughter to sought after model, ELLA EMHOFF must be grinning from ear to ear. Following on from her runway debut at Proenza Schouler this week, the bespectacled daughter of Kamala Harris has also dropped her own sold-out knitwear line on shopping site, Mall. And you know what? We don’t hate it. She’s one to watch.

CHECK-OUT
Rooney’s whispers: a conversation with friends

Following on from the meteoric success of Sally Rooney’s first TV-adapted series, Normal People, her debut novel Conversation with Friends is now being pre-packaged for Hollywood and manufactured into a key hit. With rumours that Sasha Lane and Jemima Kirke have been cast, this is bound to be 2022’s binge-worthy series.

CHECK-OFF
Kendall Jenner

THAT horrific Tequila company (check Diet Prada). THAT Skims bikini post (check her Instagram, or even better check comedian Celeste Barber’s parody). Need we say more?

CHECK-OFF
Two eggs sunny side up and a side of Supreme, please?

We could just about put on our blinders to the unwanted gentrification and onslaught of hip-tastic yuppies descending onto Brick Lane when Cereal Killers, the world’s first café dedicated to the morning treat, pried open its doors in 2014. But we draw the line at pouring milk on SUPREME’S own branded cornflakes.

CHECK-OFF
Ciao, ciao Clubhouse

Another social media outlet? Haven’t we already got enough? And naming it after one place we’re stuck in, and one we seemingly will never return to? Not cool. You can have the house; I’ll take the club – deal?
