People always ask me: why are you so addicted to Valentine’s Day? Besides being completely obsessed with decadent chocolate sweets, Valentine’s Day is also my favourite because, as my friends always tell me, I “see life through the lens of love.” I love the idea of love; I love talking about love; writing about it; and making art about it. I want to be in love for the rest of my life; and behind the detached first impressions I sometimes make, I just want everyone to feel loved in this lifetime. I also aspire to love myself in this lifetime, and I aspire to give and receive love deeply. Basically: I love love!

The idea of Valentine’s Day to me symbolises a little holiday to celebrate not just romantic love, but self-love and all love. That’s f*cking cute and adorable and fun to me. And it’s cute to be gifted sweets and flowers and cute things. Why would I not love that? Also, my Venus is in Scorpio, which means I'm emotionally intense and rather obsessive. Basically I'm qualified to give you advice on this, okay???

I’m going to be alone on Valentine’s. What should I do?

FROM: London’s Single Pringle

Okay, I lived in London for two years (I'm stateside now baby!!!) and I did a lot of things on my own there! I know y'all are in full lockdown right now though, so I'd say since the options are limited…have some time where you do whatever makes you feel best. Like reading a book, doodling with oil pastels, making a song, writing a personal essay, manifesting through affirmations - whatever that is for you.

For dinner, you could buy a bottle of natural orange wine or Lambrusco (if you don't drink, obviously skip this step) and cook the TIKTOK viral feta pasta. Light a bunch of candles or get a diffuser going and play some music while you eat. Then draw a bath, put on a face mask, exfoliate yourself silky-smooth-soft with a body scrub, and do a 10 minute self-love meditation or sound bath on YouTube. After that, I'd pick a movie to watch on Criterion Collection (but any streaming service will do) while eating your favourite dessert. If you have a tarot deck, I'd say to do a reading for yourself too. (And for single American readers who aren't in the depths of lockdown at the moment: I'd recommend going to a museum or gallery hopping during the day!)

P.s. Don't text your ex. You're hot and your higher self knows better! Being alone doesn't mean you're lonely, honey baby!

Should V-day be romantic or sexy? Any tips?

FROM: Princess Consuela Banana Hammock

Both! Personally, it's important for me to have some level of emotional connection for any sexiness to take place. So...I say V-Day should be romantic and sexy - to me, they feed off each other! Also, I ordered some red mesh crotchless underwear from SAVAGE FENTY and to be totally honest - you should do that too.

I'd say if you're spending it with someone, my general format for the day would be: cute and light-hearted during the day (preferably an activity), then a romantic evening with dinner and dessert/aphrodisiac snacks and charcuterie with wine. Lastly, your pre-bed time can be sexy. I also feel like ‘going deeper’ is nice, so playing a game like We're Not Really Strangers would be a good way to mix things up. Could be fun to do some kama sutra too...

I’m going solo for V-day and buying myself a bag instead of wasting it on someone else. What should I get?

FROM: Miss Shopaholic

What's the budget? If you're going lower, I'd get a vintage one off Depop. I love scrolling for hours to hunt for the perfect one (I'm a Virgo sun - these things bring me joy...). I love a good top handle bag in black patent leather or velvet. VESTIAIRE COLLECTIVE also has some incredible vintage Saint Laurent and Celine ones.

Market totes are also going to be big for spring - they feel essential for park hangs. Oh, or a crochet one! I'm having my mom make me one (she got into this during quarantine), but the brands MEMORIAL DAY or EVERYONE'S MOTHER are great plugs for all things handmade/woven.

Generally for me, I'm more into timeless than trendy. For pricier options, bags feel like an investment that you don't want to go out of style, so I'd say a nylon Prada - like the Hobo Tessuto mini. If you're looking for something more fun, I'm loving the STAUD Tommy Beaded Bag in Black Millefiori. Also, CAFÉ FORGOT has the best super cool purses from smaller, more unique designers. Oh, and BY FAR bags always (their mini bags are my fav!).
