Illustration is one of the many things we’ve all probably done at least once in our lives, whether that be while sitting begrudgingly through high school art classes sketching an ensemble of misshapen fruit, or staring uncontrollably at another so-called pair of fruit dangling between the legs at the local arts and craft school (admit it, we’ve all been there). These classes generally leave something to be desired… The cliché figures hardly draw any kind of inspiration for the pencil and paint-brush wielding students. That is, unless you’ve had the opportunity to grace the classes of the London-based online company, DRAWING CABARET COUTURE.

Founded by artist and set designer, MATTHEW LAWRENCE, and professional dancer and model, JANET MAYER, Drawing Cabaret Couture describes its practice as “creating Haute Couture performative drawing classes and immersive art events,” combining fashion, art and performance to create what can only be described as the most OTT illustration classes you’ve ever been to. From drawings inspired by Venetian ballerinas to those featuring the larger-than-life creations of up-and-coming designers including CSM students, CHRISTOPHER ANTONIO HARVEY and KARINA BONDAREVA, Lawrence and Mayer offer classes simply like no other. And the best part? It’s all online, so wherever you are, you’re only a Zoom away.

Drawing Cabaret Couture offers weekly illustration classes over Zoom, available as one-off purchases or through a monthly subscription starting at £12 per month. So grab a glass (or bottle) of wine, the mediums of your choice, and get drawing.
