A Royal saga and a sued Diet Prada: this week’s pop culture round-up

This is WHAT THE F*CK!, your weekly pop culture round-up of nail-biting news, need-to-know trends and never-to-be-ignored topics. Think of it as your own personally curated list, prepped and preened with things that deserve your undivided attention or disapproving glances. Allow us to do the hard work for you (we’re your own little tattle-tale) and let us show you what to check-out and check-off this week.

CHECK-OFF
Can you spell Gabbana? D&G sue Diet Prada

In an almost unbelievable twist to the seemingly never-ending saga, it has been revealed that two years ago the brand-that-shouldn’t-be-named made a defamation suit against viral news source, DIET PRADA. It argues that they should be held responsible for lost revenue and other harm to the brand and its co-founder following a series of criticisms about its stereotypical and sexist depictions of Chinese women and Stefano’s anti-Asian remarks. The case is still in court. *cue eye rolls*

CHECK-OUT
Mother is coming! Naomi Campbell for Hood By Air

HOOD BY AIR marked its grand return to ready-to-wear with a campaign fronted by none other than the OG queen herself, NAOMI CAMPBELL. Need we say more?

CHECK-OUT
Biggie’s got a story to tell

Something to add to your Netflix list this week is Emmett Malloy’s new documentary charting the life and hustle of rap king, The Notorious B.I.G. With never-before seen footage and in-depth interviews from the late rapper’s nearest and dearest, Malloy has your Saturday night sorted.

CHECK-OUT
The world’s next pop supergroup: Charli XCX, The 1975 and No Rome

In probably one of the most exciting collaborations of the decade (we’re hoping that this won’t just be a one-off), CHARLI XCX has teamed up with THE 1975 and NO ROME to release new song, Spinning, the perfect track for a post-lockdown party - should Boris keep everything on schedule.

CHECK-OFF
Azealia loves Trump…what else can we say?

I mean…what would a pop-culture round-up be without a slice of problematic pie from master baker, AZEALIA BANKS? While we too love Britney and Lil Kim, we’re not so hot on Trump and Putin.

CHECK-OUT
And the Royal saga continues…

Is anyone else out of juicy gossip to divulge to their best friends over phone calls in the middle of the night? Same - I can’t take any more conversations that start with “Got any gossip?” and end with disappointment. Fortunately, Meghan and Harry have come to drop the bombshell of the century (maybe) and set the record straight on their Royal divorce. Their conversation with Oprah is out this Sunday in the US and has - thank God - been picked up by ITV for your mandatory Monday night viewing.
