Briony Sturgis: Where did the idea of Zig Zag Goods come from?
Zig Zag Goods: Zig Zag was a way to channel lost youth and the vibrancy of expressing one’s self through wearable art.
BS: You talk about igniting ‘joyful nostalgia’ in your customers. What is joyful nostalgia to both of you?
ZZG: Joyful nostalgia stems from colour as a frequency for communication. We create garments with the intent to ignite our childhood flame and to set the stage for a positive, uplifted approach to life.
BS: What is your earliest childhood memory?
ZZG: I remember being in preschool and worshipping the kindergartners... awaiting the day I would someday be their age. I always wanted to grow up, which is probably why I created Zig Zag to hold onto aspects of childhood that I overlooked and under-appreciated.
BS: Do you remember experiencing a ‘fashion moment’ growing up? Where did the interest come from?
ZZG: I remember watching Lizzy McGuire and drooling over Lizzy & Miranda’s outfits. I really began to appreciate over-styling and getting decked out in my own wardrobe.
BS: What’s one fashion trend you regret participating in?
ZZG: Layering tanks for sure. I even got to a point that I’d toss on layer after layer, and rock a 10-tank day just to be the coolest at something…
BS: Would you say that Zig Zag is the outcome of self-discovery, or the cause of it?
ZZG: Zig Zag definitely helped excel my wardrobe and confidence. At first, the pieces we created were simple, with a touch of paint or a rainbow here and there. As I simultaneously started taking fashion risks in my own life, so did the brand. It’s a beautiful synchronicity.
BS: Desert island essential?
ZZG: My entire ring collection.
BS: What’s something you never leave the house without?
ZZG: Hydroflask!!!
BS: You’ve got a one-way flight to anywhere in the world. Where is it going?
ZZG: France please!
BS: What was the last shower thought you had?

ZZG: Being approached by one of our IDOL’S stylists…
BS: Is there ever such a thing as too much colour?
ZZG: NO. The motto is ‘wear one of each colour’ every day.
BS: What does happiness mean to you?
ZZG: Happiness is being a part of a community you love and cherish. One that helps you grow and offers support mutually. We’ve been lucky enough to find a couple of those.
