Aimed at igniting joyful nostalgia, Zig Zag Goods is the colourful brand bringing only the best Disney and y2k-inspired looks back into our wardrobes.

The end of UK lockdown has brought us the much-anticipated reunion of perhaps the most widely known and BEST series ever to exist, ‘Friends’. So, to celebrate the release of ‘The One Where They Get Back Together’, we’re digging deep into the time capsule and uncovering some of our beloved character’s most iconic styles that have remained timelessly fashionable and meme-worthy.

A nineties grunge revival never goes amiss. Thankfully, the one to satiate the kinderwhore shaped hole in our hearts is NYC rock band, Pretty Sick. Fronted by Sabrina Fuentes, the band’s sound is reminiscent of the Courtney Loves and Billy Corgans from days gone by, albeit with a slick Gen-Z twist.

Defined as a ‘whale tail’, the latest trend to hit the streets (thank God we’re allowed outside again) is the Y-shaped waistband of a thong being pulled up above the waistline of our favourite denim jeans and trousers, resembling none other than, you guessed it, the shape of a whale's tail.

Whilst the past couple of years has seen thrifting become the mainstream, the last year has given rise to a new cohort of young fashion-entrepreneurs selling their designs online. Through these clothes run common threads: Futuristic aesthetics that reference both the y2k renaissance and accelerating technological innovation.

Created by 19-year-old Irish student, Thea Von Engelbrechten, TikTok account, @sylvaniandrama was inspired by cult classics including Cruel Intentions and Gossip Girl (the OG, not the remake obvs), fabricating bizarre and overly dramatic scenes, set to our favourite ‘00s bangers and emotional Taylor Swift ballads.

The outfits worn by some of our favourite ‘00s Disney Channel characters have lived rent-free in my head ever since my fashion-hungry 8-year-old self first feasted her eyes on them. They’ve been the subject of much ridicule, but I always admired their audacity. The clash. The jangle. The sheer number of layers. Could it be that we’re finally reaching the peak of this big old y2k renaissance?

It’s been scientifically proven that nostalgia can help us cope with uncertainty. So when you need to escape, travel or get out of your head, but there’s nowhere to go, live vicariously through costume fantasies, it’s the cheapest frill you can get right now.
